Land Rover - ready to rough it

I spotted this rugged 'Rover in Dartmouth yesterday. With cut back fenders, pipe bumper and exterior roll cage it looks just about ready for anything.

It is a right hand drive vehicle, but fully licensed and safety inspected for Nova Scotia.

Happy Spring

With a winter that does not bear remembering, I welcome spring with a return to normal postings on Truckfax.

First up - those wonderful traveling Germans are back with their variety of off road and on road motorhomes of all descriptions. Every week ships of the Atlantic Container Line bring in several of these intrepid visitors. Here is a sampling of recent arrivals through the Port of Halifax.

Team Tinkerbell from Anvil Aerospace arrived with this Merc Unimog U4000. I'll let you figure out the model year (and it isn't 2772).

A more streamlined ride is this VW with  Autark camper body. See:http://www.woelcke.de/

Somewhere between the two, but still in gunmetal colour, this LandRover has an ambitious map traced out on its spare tire rim.

And now for something completely different. An IVECO chassis and Carthago M-Liner camper van body, has lots of storage space for smaller vehicles in the cargo bay.

And finally:

Although it is a Mercedes, it is wearing Canadian license plates, from British Columbia.  The body is from Leisure Travel Vans and it is a Unity model.

Famous Land Rover touches down in Halifax - again

The world traveling Vorsters from South Africa had traversed every continent, when they visited Nova Scotia a few years ago, so maybe they are retracing their steps in their unique heavily modified ex military Land Rover 2B, powered by a GMC diesel engine.
When I spotted it today around the corner form my house, I was surprised to say the least.

With standing headroom inside and high ground clearance, the rig was supposed to be as self-sustaining as possible, and able to go anywhere a four wheeled vehicle could go. From what I have been able to find on the internet, they seem to have been able to do this despite several incidents.

The web site  I have found seems to be out of date, but is well worth a visit.

If I learn more I will update.

Another Land Rover.......

This truck cab equipped Land Rover greeted me this morning as I drove out of my house. I had to go round the block to get the full view, but it was worth it!

That's a 1958 commercial plate on the front, and how about the all round visibility from the midships cab.

Land Rovers - still around

From time to time a vintage Land Rover shows up, and who can resist a Land Rover? This one appeared in Seaview Park this afternoon, while the owner took the dog (s) for a run. 1. Carrying the name The Tramp, this LR has a meaty winch mounted up front.
2. Mandatory tire on hood - check. Nice to see a long wheelbase model, and in desert tan too.

3. Tarp top - for real winter adventures - not so bad for dogs though.

4. Nova Scotia plates - so not a visitor, but right had drive nevertheless.

5. Spotted last fall on Sackville Street. Check out the aerial in the middle of the spare tire, and high rise roof.

6. Also last fall. I know this to be a 1964, in a constant state of restoration. Note the low rise roof, and wing mirrors.
