Pair of New Petes and an Oldie

Small stuff and Big stuff
There seemed to be quite a combination of smaller sized trucks and bigger sized trucks on the road today.
Among the small stuff was this wonky Freightliner with a very light weight trailer and three cars strapped on board. The road runner on the cab door hints at a more southern sort of origin, which was reinforced by the giant cactus on the sleeper. It looks like it was spec'd to tow a fifth wheel RV instead of towing old used cars for export.
There are still Sterling trucks on the road, although most are showing signs of wear. Production was discontinued in St.Thomas, ON in 2009 and in the US in 2010. There was a stock of new trucks available for some time after those dates, but even so the newest Sterling would still be at least ten years old.
Therefore this Halifax Water tanker is looking pretty good. (The operator is the utility responsible for maintaining the drinking water and sewer systems in Halifax.)
Peterbilts are favoured by many owner operators, and by wrecker operators as they are made to order with very strong frames for long wheelbases. However to see a large day cab Pete with a wrecker body is a bit unusual.
A-1 Towing + Recovery operates this Pete with a NRC 35 ton slider. It had been dispatched to tow a twin steer dump truck, one of many bringing fill to a pier expansion area at the Fairview Cove container terminal.
This Mack is typical of the twin steer dump trucks operating in the area. It has just dumped a load of fill and is NOT carrying the container terminal sign.
Although it looks like a major car wreck, the equipment behind this Kenworth is a mobile screening plant, used to grade gravel. It is quite an impressive bit of machinery: Terex Finlay 833
Operators of the Kenworth chose not to show their name on the truck, but it looked like it had New Brunswick plates.
As usual there were lots of containers going out by truck instead of the cheaper (but slower) train. This Freightliner is running for CANAM Flat Decks out of Winnipeg, MB.
As the driver straps down his load, the sun was just right to see the strong undercarriage which allows the trailer to carry a loaded container..

More Trucks from All Over
Yesterday and today was time for more trucks from all over the country and even some local ones.
This attractive low rise F'liner with a MAC grain trailer works for WCF which appears to be out of Berwick, Nova Scotia. It was backing in at P+H Milling's flour mill in Halifax, with the Halifax Grain Elevators in the background. The trailer appears to have an interesting suspension with wheels all askew.
As usual there was lots or road transport from the container terminals today.
Walmac Trasnportation hails from the southern New Brunswick village of Quispamsis but runs longaul open deck throughout Canada and the USS. Their mid-rise sleeper equipped Pete claims to be "Slow and Early". That scuffed up front bumper is an indication of very high mileage.

High Rises
The previous posts featured trucks with low rise or mid-rise sleeper heights, which stands to reason with the type of trailers and cargoes they were carrying. Today however by chance I came across a number of trucks with high rise sleepers.
Another white painted Freightliner showed up in my viewfinder.
CRE Transport of Terrebonne, QC runs this conventional high rise unit with a step deck trailer, likely here to pick up a container.Friday, May 21, 2021
Trucks from all over
The Port of Halifax attracts truck traffic of all sorts. There are containers, heavy and oversize loads and some of the trucks come from far away. In the last few weeks I've seen quite a variety, most with step deck trailers.

Big Harvester
A new harvester from the Belgian company Dewulf will soon be on the road behind a Kenworth from Express Mondor of Lanoraie, QC.
The big four row top lifting harvester is equipped with a discharge conveyor (in the up position near the back of the hopper). Express Mondor is in the heart of Quebec farm country, so the harvester could be destined for work on any number of crops such as carrots or beets. The interesting trailer has reflectors on the mud guards over each axle.

More Oversize
More oversize loads continue to arrive in Halifax by ship. They are usually on the road within a very few hours, so I probably miss most of them. However this evening I did catch a couple:
Riggers were still at work completing the chains to secure this unit from Superior Boiler. It will be hauled away by this colorful F'Liner from ASET (Alberta Specialize Equipment Transport) from Carstairs, AB.
Meanwhile:
A low rise Volvo from IMT International Machine Transport from Abbotsford, BC loaded this big crate. IMT specializes in aerospace component transport as well as oversize and heavy. The crate displays Rolls Royce markings and a weight of 34,150 kg.
