Chainé

 Transport Chainé from Shawinigan, QC is a major heavy / oversize load and rigging company. Its equipment appears to be top quality and is always clean looking. Today, July 25, I spotted two of their rigs at Fairivew Cove, picking up a consignment of industrial equipment. One large piece was loaded aboard a multi-axle low boy and the rest in a curtainside trailer.

The Alutrec curtainsider was being hauled by a Kenworth and the low boy by a Western Star - both looking sharp in the company's dark green and white colours.

It looks like the Western Star will be doing the heavy work:

The large component was well secured on the Temisko trailer.

Bigger than Big and just big

 Another big load coming out of the port today was this giant transformer.

It took a tri-axle dolly/trailer/dolly rig built by Temisko to carry the unit.

Total Transport + Rigging used their big International HX to haul it out of the port area.

I expect it will be handed over to a Quebec truck at some point, since the trailer had Quebec plates.

Although it is difficult to see in the top photo, the lead escort truck had a clearance pole mounted on its front bumper. (There was a trailing escort too).

The transformer was not the only unusual load leaving the port. A pair of Swedish-built Dynapac vibratory rollers got a ride behind an interesting Peterbilt.

The Pete had a large low rise sleeper and was carrying a Day + Ross sticker. Day + Ross may be better  known for LTL, dry van and temperature controlled hauling but has a substantial flatbed business too.

And to round off the big truck show today was this day cab Kenworth hauling what I believe is scaffolding and deck components. The truck's owners, A.W.Leil operate large cranes, but also run crane equipped semi tractor / boom trucks.

And yes he did make it around that corner without spilling anything, but I hope he checked his straps before going too much farther.

Big Harvester

  A new harvester from the Belgian company Dewulf will soon be on the road behind a Kenworth from Express Mondor of Lanoraie, QC.

The big four row top lifting harvester is equipped with a discharge conveyor (in the up position near the back of the hopper). Express Mondor is in the heart of Quebec farm country, so the harvester could be  destined for work on any number of crops such as carrots or beets.

The interesting trailer has reflectors on the mud guards over each axle.

The beefy looking set-back axle KW has a mid-rise Aerodyne sleeper and is working with a two axle Temisko dolly.

Big loads coming off the piers

It was a day for some big loads coming off the container piers in Halifax today. I didn't get all of them, but here are a few:

At Fairview Cove, this nice KW had a container load of casks well distributed on his long container chassis:

Also at Fairview Cove, Atlantic Tiltload tri-axle Western Star #48 had a four axle Talbert trailer at work:

Its load was an Atlas Copco H2060 minetruck. The low overhead profile indicates that this may be the last sunshine it see for a long time, since it will be working in an underground mine.

Meanwhile at the south end, Halterm container terminal, a Freightliner with multi-axle Temisko trailer was waiting until after rush hour to hit the road. The escort truck waits behind.
