Big Stuff on Big Trailers

Some recent oversize loads have caught my attention.

No secret what was shrink wrapped on this trailer:

But the hauler was a treat:

T-Lane of Saint John, NB brought out their big Freightliner for the job.

An Atlas Copco MT42 minetruck was ready to roll last week but it was not until last evening that Mills Heavy Hauling's Mack Granite arrived to haul it out. [see next posting on Kenworths for the red machine in the background]

Mills also had this rig at Aulac, NB earlier this month, heading west.
There were lots of miles on the Western Star (which sitting unattended, with its engine roaring at top revs)

But not so the brand new Liebherr loader. It was fresh off the ship and headed west. It's a Paron trailer, but I'm not sure about the dolly.

Big loads coming off the piers

It was a day for some big loads coming off the container piers in Halifax today. I didn't get all of them, but here are a few:

At Fairview Cove, this nice KW had a container load of casks well distributed on his long container chassis:

Closer inspection revealed that they contained radioactive material (see the signs on the sides and front of the trailer.) Operators Hittman Transport Services Inc, specialize in these loads. See: http://www.energysolutions.com/business-units/global-commercial-logistics/hittman-trucking

Also at Fairview Cove, Atlantic Tiltload tri-axle Western Star #48 had a four axle Talbert trailer at work:
Its load was an Atlas Copco H2060 minetruck. The low overhead profile indicates that this may be the last sunshine it see for a long time, since it will be working in an underground mine.

Meanwhile at the south end, Halterm container terminal, a Freightliner with multi-axle Temisko trailer was waiting until after rush hour to hit the road. The escort truck waits behind.

Transport Chainé of Grand-Mère, Qc runs this nicely fitted out set-back axle Freightliner. Chainé is a heavy and large load specialist, and has an excellent web site, well worth the visit:

More Mining Trams [updated]

1. Atlas Copco 5020 [added 2011-03-12]

It was also mining tram day at Fairview this morning. Two competing brands of underground mining trucks were lined up in the parking lot.

2. A pair of these Sandvik 30SX (30 metric tonne) trucks showed up on Atlantic Tiltload trailers. These did not look like new trucks, but they did appear to be in good shape. My guess is they are outbound vehicles, heading overseas.

3. A mighty Atlas Copco 5020 (50 tonne) articulated, all wheel drive tram. This is an inbound unit. No sign of its low profile dump box however, so perhaps it had already left. No tractor on this trailer, so destination is unknown.

I recently uploaded another Atlas Copco unit, see:
