A Peterbilt with full fenders (I wonder how they work in heavy snow and ice) made a brief call in Halifax to pick up an unusual piece of farm machinery at the PSA Fairview Cove terminal January 26.
The load is a Downs Vision sorter for unwashed potatoes. A field trailer dumps the potatoes onto the wide conveyor which sends them through a number of stages for cleaning, grading, optical sorting and inspecting and can connect to loading and storage systems by more conveyor connections. The unit was likely built in France where the Downs company is based.
The truck is from Quebec and was preparing to leave with its pilot car. Nova Scotia has a number of regulations for escort vehicles, which vary depending on the number of lanes of the road being traveled and whether in daylight or at night, and the dimensions of the unit.
